Inspiring Spaces with Illustration, Signage and Design
Star Academies are driven by a clear mission: to improve the life chances of young people from areas facing social and economic challenges. When their team at Laisterdyke Leadership Academy asked oodle to help bring colour and inspiration to their school library, we knew it was a chance to make a meaningful difference through design.
We combined three of our creative strengths – graphic design, illustration and signage – to deliver a space that would spark imagination and celebrate learning. Our journey began with a site visit, where we photographed and measured the library to fully understand the layout, natural light and flow. The brief was to develop artwork that could engage a wide secondary school age range and reflect iconic characters from literature, all with a contemporary and accessible twist.
From sketches to storytelling walls
Our in-house designers developed a series of digital illustrations, using hand-drawn sketching and stylised artwork to create a visual journey through forest, ocean and mountain landscapes. Each area featured beloved characters from literary classics, imagined in an illustrative style that tied the full space together. We presented the designs as mock-ups imposed on the actual walls of the library, so the Academy team could easily visualise the transformation.
Feedback? No amends, just enthusiasm. Our designs were exactly what Laisterdyke Leadership Academy hoped for.
From concept to installation
We brought the artwork to life using durable Foamex and vinyl wall graphics, printed in vibrant CMYK and installed by one of our trusted signage teams. Attention to detail mattered at every stage, including ensuring that the space was left immaculate post-installation.
The result is a library that buzzes with energy and curiosity. A place where the visuals reflect the ambition of the Academy and the power of storytelling.
